General concept of the model

The MG Cyberster GT is an all-electric G-segment roadster for two passengers. The car is built on a specialised electric platform and has an open cabriolet body.

Structurally, it is a modern electric vehicle with a high-capacity battery, all-wheel drive and high power output. At the same time, it does not try to be too complex or experimental in terms of architecture. It uses a 400-volt electrical system, a lithium-ion battery and charging interfaces that are standard in Europe.

Cyberster will be available on the market from spring 2024 and is primarily focused on Europe and the UK.

Design and dimensions

The MG Cyberster has pronounced sporty proportions. The low stance, long bonnet and short rear end create a classic roadster image, but in a modern way.

Interior and practicality

The interior of the MG Cyberster is designed strictly for two people. This is the fundamental position of the model, and it is felt in everything. The space is focused on the driver and passenger, without trying to imitate versatility.

The boot volume is 249 litres. This is a normal figure for a roadster, but it should be understood that the car is not designed to carry a large number of things. There is no front boot.

MG Cyberster GT is equipped with two electric motors and all-wheel drive. The total power output of the power plant is 375 kW, which is equivalent to 510 hp. 725 Nm of torque.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.2 seconds. This is on par with modern electric sports cars and significantly faster than most mass-market electric vehicles.

The top speed is limited to 200 km/h. For an electric roadster, this is quite an adequate figure, taking into account aerodynamics and practical use.

All-wheel drive provides stability during active acceleration and better control in corners, especially at high speeds.

Battery and range

The MG Cyberster uses a lithium-ion battery with a useful capacity of 74.4 kWh. The nominal capacity is 77 kWh.

Depending on the operating conditions, the indicators vary:

• city in mild weather - up to 570 km
• The track in mild weather is about 365 km
• combined mode in cold weather - about 335 km
• The track in cold weather is about 285 km

These figures are a good illustration of the real picture of electric vehicle usage. The Cyberster can be economical in quiet mode, but consumption increases during active driving or at high speeds, which is quite logical for a car of this class.

Long journeys and practicality on the road

The MG Cyberster has a 2.5 out of 5 rating for long-distance driving. This is not so much due to the charging system as to the car's format.

According to the 1-Stop Range methodology:

• in average conditions, the car covers about 409 km with one stop for 15 minutes
• This figure decreases in cold weather
• grows in mild weather

Cyberster is capable of long-distance driving, but it is not designed as a touring car. It's more about driving for the sake of driving, not about maximum efficiency over thousands of kilometres.

Handling and road behaviour

Thanks to its low centre of gravity, wide track and all-wheel drive, the MG Cyberster demonstrates stable and predictable behaviour. It holds its trajectory well, responds quickly to the steering wheel and does not feel overwhelmed.

It is not an aggressive track car, but a very confident roadster. Its character is revealed in its smooth, controlled driving with the ability to accelerate sharply when needed.

Energy consumption

The average actual energy consumption is around 188 Watt-hours per kilometre.

In different conditions:

Charging the MG Cyberster in everyday use

Home charging with alternating current (AC)

The MG Cyberster is equipped with a Type 2 port for AC charging. The maximum charging power from the mains is 11 kW, which is the standard for most modern electric vehicles in Europe.

When connected to a three-phase charging station, it takes about 8 hours to fully charge the battery. This is a convenient option for overnight charging at home or in a private car park.

Charging from an ordinary household outlet is possible, but it takes much longer - more than 38 hours. This method should only be considered as a temporary solution. For regular use, a stationary charging station or access to a three-phase network remains the best option.

Fast charging with direct current (DC)

The MG Cyberster uses a CCS connector for charging on the go. The car supports fast DC charging with a capacity of up to 144 kW.

In real-world conditions, it takes about 39 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent. The average power output in this range is approximately 85 kW. During this time, you can restore a substantial range and continue your journey without long stops.

The model supports the Autocharge function, which simplifies the process of starting charging at compatible stations. The MG Cyberster does not have Plug & Charge support, so authorisation at most stations is carried out in the standard way.
