BYD Han L: a review of a large electric sedan for a quiet daily commute

Just a few years ago, the phrase "electric car from China" sounded like something dubious. Now everything is different. BYD (which is, for a moment, the world's second largest electric vehicle manufacturer after Tesla) has launched the Han L, a large, serious sedan that is already on sale in Europe, with a premium interior and technical characteristics that are on par with flagships.

But the most interesting thing is that Han L does not shout about itself. There is no attempt to look "more expensive than it is". It's just a convenient, comfortable car for those who spend many hours on the road every day and appreciate quiet, logic and a normal climate in the cabin.

We remind you that you can purchase home and commercial charging stations in our online storeand also use the public charging stations ECOFACTORcharging points located throughout Ukraine. For convenient access to charging infrastructure, we recommend using our mobile applicationwhich is available on iOS and Android.

Dimensions, design and first impression

Han L is a full-fledged business saloon. It is more than five metres long, but it does not look bulky. On the contrary, the proportions are well balanced: an elongated bonnet, a smooth roofline, and a neat rear end.

The headlights do not flash all the colours of the rainbow and do not try to impress with the number of diodes. Their main task is to provide high-quality road lighting. And they cope with this. The car's profile reads as a whole, without any strange design experiments.

They attract attention in appearance:

  • neat chrome accents, not a full "luxury package" on all sides
  • hidden door handles that do not scream futurism, but are simply comfortable
  • light bar at the rear that does not flash at every turn

This is a car that does not bore with its appearance.

Interior: simplicity and comfort

The first few minutes in the Han L cabin can be a bit of a surprise if you've driven classic cars with touchscreen controls for everything. There is a large 15.6-inch screen that can be rotated vertically or horizontally. But there are still physical buttons for important functions such as temperature, heated windows, and driving modes.

The seats are heated and ventilated, there is a massage, and there is plenty of space both in front and behind. And the interior is really quiet. And it's not just because of the electric motor.

Other details:

  • real wood and metal inserts, not plastic to look like aluminium
  • spacious second row with folding backrests and climate control for passengers
  • double glass, which not only insulates against noise but also retains heat

I don't want to take photos of the salon for Instagram, but I do want to go far in it.

Dynamics: the numbers are good, but that's not the main thing

The most powerful version of the BYD Han L has two electric motors and produces more than 1000 hp. It sounds impressive, but in real life, another thing is more important: how the car behaves on the road.

In the city, it's calm, predictable, without jerks. On the highway, it's stable, even at high speeds it doesn't start to "float" or wear out. The steering wheel is not cottony, and the suspension is not "wooden".

The Han L has an adaptive air suspension that can change the stiffness depending on the road. And it really works.

Battery, charging and real-world range

The Han L has an 83.2 kWh battery and supports ultra-fast charging at 1000 kW. In theory, this allows you to get +400 km of range in 5 minutes. But it is worth considering that there are no such chargers in Ukraine yet.

In our reality, other things are more important:

  • At home, it is charged from a conventional 11 kW station overnight
  • On a 150 kW charge, the 80% can be obtained in approximately 30 minutes
  • energy consumption remains stable in the city and on the highway

You can drive 550-600 km on a single charge. This is without much economy and at a normal pace.

How we at ECOFACTOR help with charging the BYD Han L

The BYD Han L can drive hundreds of kilometres without recharging, but the comfort of the owner of such a car depends not only on the battery, but also on where and how to charge it. This is where our team comes into play. At ECOFACTOR, we create charging infrastructure in Ukraine from scratch - we design, manufacture, and maintain charging stationswhich already allow owners of electric vehicles to charge at home, at work or on the road without any difficulty.

Our network includes more than 3,500 charging ports, and we are constantly working to expand our coverage. Thanks to our mobile app for iOS and Android drivers can quickly find an available charging point, track the charging process and pay for services without cash. Map of charging stations in the app is updated in real time, which allows you to plan a route even for long trips, including cars such as Han L. We also offer turnkey solutions for businesses - from hotels and restaurants to shopping malls and residential complexes.

Our online shop is available for anyone who wants to charge at home or on private property. It includes AC stations with a capacity of up to 44 kW and DC stations with a capacity of up to 420 kW, as well as all the necessary accessories, cables and adapters, RFID cards, and mobile chargersand adapters for different types of connectors. We manufacture all devices in Ukraine, adapting them to our conditions and needs.

For models like the Han L that support high-power charging, our DC solutions are the most convenient option. But even if you charge your car at home using an AC station, it changes the experience of owning an electric car completely. You get up in the morning to a fully charged car, and you don't need to waste time on visits to petrol stations.

We have also developed a platform for charging infrastructure operators - EFN. It is a tool for managing large charging networks, flexible charging, monitoring energy consumption and station maintenance. This can be relevant for businesses, residential complexes or municipal solutions.

Han L is a car that already meets the needs of a modern driver. And we at ECOFACTOR are doing everything to ensure that Ukraine has a charging infrastructure that meets this level.

Assistants and support systems

BYD does not boast of "full autopilot", but the Han L has everything you need in real life:

  • adaptive cruise control
  • staying in the lane
  • automatic braking
  • recognition of road signs
  • parking with 360-degree camera

Everything works smoothly. There's no feeling that the car is taking control unnecessarily. I'm especially pleased with the way the high beams behave: they switch automatically without blinding oncoming cars.

Multimedia without kinks

The DiLink 5.0 system is really convenient. There is support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and they work without freezing. The screen responds quickly, but the interface is not cluttered.

In the car:

  • You can quickly switch between navigation, camera, music
  • there are built-in services (such as TikTok or a video player), but they are not conspicuous
  • all updates arrive by air

There is also an AR-HUD that displays navigation on the windscreen. But if you don't need it, you can turn it off.

Practicality and everyday convenience

The Han L is not a show toy. This is a car that is easy to wash, park and just get in and drive.

  • 410-litre boot with a normal shape and wide opening
  • ground clearance is sufficient for Ukrainian roads (especially in "comfort" mode)
  • Everything under the bonnet is sealed - nothing rattles or leaks

It's easy to park in the city even without a parking meter. And with the remote control, you can call the car from a distance - useful in narrow yards.

Who is this car for

Han L is not about demonstrating status, but about everyday convenience. It is ideal for those who spend a lot of time on the road: daily commuting, long-distance travel, business meetings in different parts of the city. If it is important for you that the road does not exhaust you, but rather gives you a chance to relax, Han L may pleasantly surprise you.

The car is suitable for families where the second row is used not "just in case", but every day - there is enough space even for adult passengers or car seats. Han L will also be useful for business: premium taxis, corporate transport or trips with clients - it's all about it.

The car will especially appeal to those who want to switch to an electric car, but without unnecessary complications. There is no need to constantly monitor the charge - the range is long, and charging at home or in the city does not cause a headache. This is an option for people who value comfort, practicality and quiet power instead of a bright "wrapper".

Pros and cons

Advantages:

  • Spacious and quiet interior: Even on bad roads or when driving fast, the cabin remains quiet. Double glazing, good noise insulation and high-quality materials really make you feel comfortable. This is important if you drive a lot or with your family.
  • Convenient multimedia: The large screen is not just a decoration, but a real working tool. Navigation, cameras, smartphone connection - everything is in place, works quickly, the interface is intuitive even if you are not used to such systems.
  • Good power reserve: In standard urban or suburban conditions, the car can drive 550-600 km without recharging. This eliminates the constant anxiety of searching for charging stations, especially if you have your own charging station at home or at work.
  • Real savings in maintenance: There are fewer wearing parts, no oil, gearbox or complex exhaust system. Consumption per 100 km is much cheaper than petrol or diesel, and maintenance is less frequent.
  • High-quality assembly: Visually and to the touch, the car does not cause a feeling of "cheapness". The panels are assembled tightly, nothing squeaks, and the doors close with a pleasant sound. This is a serious step forward compared to previous BYD models.

Disadvantages:

  • There are few official high-power charging points: BYD claims to support ultra-fast charging at 1000 kW, but there are no such stations in Ukraine yet. In most cases, you will have to charge at 50-150 kW, which is not critical, but does not give you the full potential of the car.
  • The brand does not yet have a wide dealer network in Ukraine: It is more difficult to buy or service a BYD Han L from an authorised representative than, say, a Mercedes or Volkswagen. Spare parts, upgrades, service - all this is still evolving, and you will have to be patient if something goes wrong.
  • 19" tyres are quite expensive to maintain: A large car requires appropriate wheels. Replacing a set will not be cheap - about $1000-1200. Plus, in small towns they may not be available, you will have to order them. But this is a standard situation for cars of this class.

Conclusion.

The BYD Han L is not a "sensation from China", but a mature, well-thought-out sedan for those who just want to get where they need to go comfortably and quietly. It is not bought "for pomp", and it is not trying to be a replacement for some high-profile brand. But if we put aside logos, numbers and template thinking, we are looking at a very balanced car. Spacious, modern, with pleasant dynamics and real economy in operation.

Yes, it has its limitations: our charging infrastructure has not yet caught up with the technical capabilities of the Han L, and the brand is just starting to get acquainted with the Ukrainian market. But if you look beyond stereotypes and are ready to try something new, this electric sedan definitely deserves a test drive. Not because it is a winner in terms of performance, but because it is really convenient in everyday life. Sometimes this is much more important than seconds to the hundred.

Frequently asked questions

Is it possible to drive 600 km on a single charge?

Yes, but only if you drive calmly without sudden acceleration and in a temperate climate. In the city and on suburban roads, this mileage is quite achievable. If you drive fast on the highway in winter, it will be less.

How comfortable is the ride in the back?

Very much so. The second row has been thought out to the smallest detail: plenty of legroom, folding backrests, separate climate control. It's not just for show, it's real comfort even for adult passengers.

Can I charge at home?

Yes, Han L can be fully charged from a conventional 11 kW station overnight. If you install a smart charger at home, it doesn't cause any discomfort at all.

How does the car behave in winter?

Han L has a heated battery and works well even in sub-zero weather. Of course, in cold weather, the range drops slightly, as with all electric vehicles, but the temperature control system helps to reduce these losses.

Is there support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes, both systems are supported and work stably. The multimedia interface is user-friendly, the touchscreen is fast, and the connection to a smartphone is seamless.
