Xiaomi YU7 review: style, power and comfort in every detail

Xiaomi continues to gain a strong foothold in the automotive market. Following the resounding success of the SU7 sedan, the company has introduced its first electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7. This is not just another crossover, but a full-fledged attempt to create a premium car that combines comfort, dynamics and new generation technologies.

The YU7 immediately attracts attention with its design, powerful technical characteristics and record-breaking range of up to 835 km. In this article, we will analyse what impresses about the new product, who it is designed for, and whether it has a chance to become a real competitor to Tesla Model Y and other electric giants.

Design and appearance

Xiaomi YU7 looks expensive and modern, even without aggressive accents. The design is built around balanced proportions: 3:1 wheelbase to body ratio, low centre of gravity, wide wheel arches and smooth lines. The car looks powerful, but without being overly sporty.

The front end features a stretched bonnet and an extended front end, which not only adds to the dynamics but also provides more space for safety in a frontal collision.

Xiaomi paid special attention to colours. Nine colour options are available for YU7, including Basalt Gray, Lava Orange, Titanium Silver, Emerald Green, as well as the new Pearl White, Dusk Purple and Shadow Teal. Metallic pigments create a depth of colour, and the light glare looks spectacular even without direct sunlight.

The wheels are available in three sizes - 19, 20 and 21 inches. Each variant is available in a variety of designs, including alloy forged versions, complemented by Brembo brakes with brightly coloured calipers.

Interior and comfort

The interior of Xiaomi YU7 is a combination of minimalism, high technology and comfort. Everything looks well thought out and pleasant to the touch: soft materials, smooth transitions, neat lighting.

The seats are upholstered in genuine Nappa leather, and the area of certified safe materials in the cabin reaches 17 m². This means that even parents can travel with their children in peace - all surfaces are safe for skin contact.

The front seats have ventilation, heating, massage and even a zero-gravity position. The rear seats can be folded down to a 135° angle, creating a comfortable place to relax or take a short nap on the road. If desired, the cabin can be converted into a spacious 1.8 metre long bed.

There is plenty of space for all passengers, with headroom of 100 mm at the front and 77 mm at the rear. The boot has a capacity of 687 litres, and with the seats folded down, it can hold up to 1,758 litres. There is a further 141 litres in the front for small items or hand luggage.

For convenience, 36 storage niches are provided.

Technology and multimedia

The YU7 is built entirely on the "Human x Car x Home" philosophy that Xiaomi is developing in its ecosystem. This means that the car integrates with other brand devices, from smartphones to smart homes.

In the centre of the dashboard is a large 16-inch screen with Xiaomi HyperOS. The driver has a projection display, and the rear passengers have separate tablets for multimedia. All of this works quickly and the interface is intuitive.

The Xiaomi Hyper XiaoAI voice control system supports five zones: each passenger can give their own commands without interfering with the others. An interesting detail is virtual satellites that respond to car movements and the user's voice.

The sound in the cabin is also on par: 25 speakers, Dolby Atmos support, and Xiaomi's own audio algorithms create surround sound.

Power and dynamics

YU7 is available in three versions: Standard, Pro and Max.

• Standard (RWD) - 320 hp, 528 Nm of torque, acceleration to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
• Pro (AWD) - 496 hp, all-wheel drive, acceleration in 4.2 seconds.
• Max (AWD) - 690 hp, 0-100 km/h in 3.23 seconds, top speed 253 km/h.

The 800V electric platform allows the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 12-15 minutes. The range is up to 835 km in the standard version, making the YU7 one of the leaders in its class.

The suspension is double-wishbone air suspension, with a five-link rear and double wishbone front. It adapts to the type of road in real time, adjusting stiffness and height.

Control and comfort on the move

The YU7 is designed for those who value smoothness and stability. The Smart Chassis system, which uses cameras and sensors to pre-scan the road, adjusts the suspension before the car hits a bump.

Variable-ratio steering ensures easy manoeuvring in the city and stability at speed. The turning radius is just 5.7 metres, which is an excellent figure for a large SUV.

The adaptive suspension and soft braking are a particular highlight.

The YU7 is built on a reinforced Armour-Cage body structure made of 90% high-strength steel and aluminium elements. The torsional stiffness reaches 47,610 N-m/degree, which is on par with premium cars.

The body has six moulded tubes and integrated elements that create a "built-in safety cage" effect. This increases stability in side impacts and rollovers.

The electric vehicle is equipped with 8 airbags, LiDAR, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and collision avoidance systems.

All batteries have been rigorously tested for resistance to high temperatures and mechanical damage. The lower part has an armoured coating to protect it from impacts from stones or road debris.

Testing and reliability

Before being launched into production, Xiaomi YU7 underwent an extensive testing programme that covered more than 10 million kilometres. The test trips lasted 539 days in various climatic and road conditions. The car was tested in 296 cities across China - from the hot Turpan with temperatures of over +53°C to the polar cold of Heihe, where thermometers showed -41°C. Engineers also tested the systems at extreme altitudes, taking the YU7 to 5,300 metres above sea level in Tibet.

The tests evaluated battery endurance, suspension behaviour, cooling efficiency and the operation of electronic systems under various loads. All the results confirmed that the YU7 maintains stable dynamics and safety even in challenging conditions - from city traffic to off-road.

A separate test was the 24-hour endurance marathon, which was conducted under the supervision of the China Automotive Research Centre. During it, YU7 Max covered 3,944 km in one day, setting a record among electric vehicles in its class. This test demonstrated that the car is not only efficient over short distances, but also able to withstand long journeys without losing performance.

These tests proved the reliability of the design, the durability of the battery, and the quality of the materials. Thanks to the rigorous testing, Xiaomi has been able to ensure a level of safety that exceeds the requirements of China's 2025 national standards for electric vehicles.

Xiaomi YU7 is designed as a universal electric car for all users, including those who use Apple devices. For iPhone owners, the company has prepared advanced integration with the Apple ecosystem.

The car supports CarPlay, which can be fixed as a widget on the home screen and allows you to use the car system and iPhone applications simultaneously. Apple Music is available directly through the multimedia system, so you can listen to music without any additional connections.

Through the Xiaomi EV App, the user has access to real-time car status, including cabin temperature, battery level, route and remaining mileage. Navigation routes can be sent directly from the iPhone to the car's system, which is useful when planning trips.

Xiaomi YU7 Standard - a balanced choice

The base version of the YU7 costs 253,500 yuan (approximately 31,800 euros). It has rear-wheel drive (RWD), an electric motor with 320 hp and 528 Nm of torque. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 5.9 seconds and the range reaches 835 km on the CLTC cycle, which is one of the best performances among electric SUVs in this price segment.
