Engine and dynamics

Under the hood, the MG5 EV is powered by a single electric motor with an output of 130 kW (177 hp) and 280 N-m of torque. The drive is front-wheel drive, so the road behaviour is more familiar to those who are switching from classic station wagons to electrics. Acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h takes about 7.7 seconds, which is more than enough for a family electric car. The top speed is 185 km/h, although in real use, it is unlikely that anyone will often exceed 120-130 km/h, given the charge economy.

The car is confident on the road. Thanks to the battery's location under the floor, the centre of gravity is low, so the MG5 EV doesn't roll when cornering and feels stable even on the highway. The suspension is balanced: it's not too stiff, but it's not too floaty either. For city roads with bumps, it's just right.

Battery and range

The MG5 EV is equipped with a 50.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery (46 kWh of usable charge). This is a battery type that is known for its durability and stability, especially with frequent charging.

Real power reserve

According to the WLTP test, the car can cover up to 320 km, and in mixed conditions - approximately 265 km. In the city, you can expect even 400 km if you drive calmly and without sudden accelerations. In winter, when the temperature drops to -10°C and the heating is switched on, the range is reduced to 190-265 km, depending on the terrain.

For an electric vehicle of this class, these are quite realistic figures. The MG5 EV performs better than many competitors with similar batteries, especially considering the weight and body of the station wagon.

Energy efficiency

The average energy consumption is 174 Wh/km, which corresponds to approximately 2 litres of petrol per 100 km. In the city, this figure can drop to 115 Wh/km in summer and rise to 242 Wh/km on the highway in winter. This means that the MG5 EV is truly economical: a full charge usually lasts for several days of city driving without the need to plug in every day

Charging and energy replenishment time

The MG5 EV supports AC charging with a capacity of up to 11 kW (Type 2), which allows the battery to be fully charged in about 5 hours from a three-phase network. For home use, a regular socket is sufficient - the process will take about a day, but this is more of an emergency option.

Fast charging

At DC stations, the car receives up to 63 kW. Charging from 10% to 80% takes about 38 minutes. When travelling, this means that the car is ready to continue driving while the driver has a coffee or a meal.

The MG5 EV also supports the Autocharge function, which allows you to start charging automatically at compatible stations. However, there is no Plug & Charge function (as in Tesla or Mercedes EQ).

An interesting feature of the MG5 EV is its support for V2L (Vehicle-to-Load). The car can deliver up to 2.2 kW of alternating current via a Type 2 adapter.
