The XPeng G9 impresses with technology and power, offering better dynamics and faster charging. The Tesla Model Y, on the other hand, is efficient, lightweight, and stable in energy consumption. Both cars have their advantages, but their approach to electromobility is different: XPeng focuses on innovation and comfort, while Tesla focuses on practicality and simplicity.

Charging: speed matters

For Ukrainian realities, charging speed often determines whether an electric car is comfortable to drive. And here, the XPeng G9 is clearly in the lead. Its battery supports a charging capacity of up to 445 kW (with an average of 280 kW). This allows you to replenish the charge from 10 to 80% in just 12 minutes. This result is one of the best among production cars.

The Tesla Model Y in this version supports a maximum of 175 kW, and the average is about 110 kW. It takes about 24 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. This is also a good result, but in real use, the XPeng simply makes it first.

Power reserve: what Ukrainian roads will show

In laboratory conditions, the XPeng promises up to 502 km of WLTP, but the actual figure is 410 km. In the city, at moderate temperatures, the car can travel 600 km, and in winter, 350 km in a mixed cycle. The Tesla Model Y officially has a range of 534 km (WLTP), but the real distance is closer to 380 km. Interestingly, in summer, it can show up to 440 km in a mixed cycle.

Real conditions in Ukraine

Due to the cold, snow and our speed limits, the difference between the two cars is shrinking. The Tesla wins in efficiency, but the XPeng compensates with a larger battery. So both cars are able to confidently cover the Kyiv-Lviv or Odesa-Kyiv routes with one short stop for charging.

Comfort and space

The XPeng G9 has larger dimensions: 4891 mm in length versus 4797 mm in Tesla. The wheelbase is also longer – 2998 mm versus 2890 mm. This means that the XPeng is noticeably more spacious, especially in the rear seats.

Tesla is known for its minimalist philosophy. Inside, almost everything is controlled via a central 15-inch screen. The new version adds an 8-inch display for the rear passengers, but the overall impression remains – a minimum of buttons, maximum clean lines.

The XPeng, on the other hand, focuses on technological comfort. The cabin features three screens at once, a separate multimedia system for the front passenger and a queen’s seat with a retractable footrest. Add to this a three-level panoramic roof with SPF1000 protection and sophisticated noise insulation, and the difference becomes obvious.

Functionality and practicality

Tesla традиційно має місткий багажник – 835 л плюс 117 л спереду. XPeng пропонує 660 л плюс 71 л спереду. Різницю має і буксирувальна здатність – 1500 кг проти 1600 у Tesla, що в реальному житті майже не помітно.

XPeng has taken autonomous technology to the next level. Even the basic version has the Highway NGP system, while the MAX version has XNGP, a system for semi-autonomous driving in the city and on the highway. The car uses cameras, lidars and NVIDIA Orin for data processing.

The Tesla Model Y has basic Autopilot, which works well on highways, but Full Self-Driving (FSD) requires a subscription. So far, this system has not been adapted to Ukrainian roads, so most drivers use only simple functions such as lane keeping and adaptive cruise control.
