Electric cars are no longer a luxury or exotic on Ukrainian roads. Over the past few years, we have become accustomed to seeing Tesla, Nissan Leaf, and now new Chinese models gradually gaining the trust of drivers. Among them, the MG4 EV attracts special attention. It looks modern, has good performance and a price that is significantly lower than the Model 3. But is it able to compete with Tesla in real life?
In this review, we will compare the MG4 and Tesla Model 3 not only in terms of technical parameters, but also in terms of how they behave in Ukrainian realities: charging, costs, comfort, climate and roads.
We remind you that you can purchase home and commercial charging stations in our online storeand also use the public charging stations ECOFACTORcharging points located throughout Ukraine. For convenient access to charging infrastructure, we recommend using our mobile applicationwhich is available on iOS and Android.
Design and dimensions
Both models have their own character and philosophy. And it's not just about the look, but also about the feeling that each of them creates.
MG4 EV: compact and bold
The MG4 is an example of how a budget electric car can look impressive. Its design is aggressive yet harmonious: expressive headlights, sharp body lines, and a sporty rear end with an LED strip. The car gives the impression of being more expensive than it actually is.
With a length of 4.28 m and a width of 1.83 m, it is ideal for the city. The 1.50 m height and short base create a dynamic silhouette. For parking in dense city neighbourhoods, the MG4 is a real asset. It is compact without looking small.
The MG4 is based on the new SAIC MSP platform, which was specially developed for electric cars. This results in a flat floor, optimum weight distribution and a spacious interior.

Tesla Model 3: minimalism and restraint
The Tesla Model 3 is the opposite of the MG4. Its design is about clean lines and calm confidence. There is nothing superfluous in it: smooth surfaces, streamlined shape, a minimum of chrome parts. It looks serious, mature and restrained.
At 4.69 metres long and 1.85 metres wide, the Tesla is a bigger car. This means more space inside, but also a little more difficult to park in the city centre. However, for the highway and long journeys, this length is beneficial - the car is more stable at speed.
The MG4 looks younger and more playful, while the Tesla is more balanced and businesslike. The choice depends on your taste and lifestyle.
Practical and spacious
The MG4 EV has a boot of 363 litres and no front boot. When the rear seats are folded, the volume increases to 1,177 litres, which is enough for a family weekend trip. The Tesla Model 3 offers 561 litres of total volume, including 88 litres of front boot space. This makes it more practical in everyday use, especially for travelling or transporting large items.
MG4, as a hatchback, is more convenient for loading - the doors open together with the glass, which makes it easier to place bulky items. Tesla, as a sedan, has a smaller opening but greater depth.
Interior and comfort
Tesla Model 3
Tesla's interior is almost a philosophy of minimalism. All controls are reduced to a single 15-inch screen that replaces the dashboard, climate, navigation, and even the glove compartment. It's impressive and at the same time takes some getting used to.
The materials in Tesla are of high quality: soft panels, comfortable seats, good fit. But everything is designed in a strict style - no frills. The steering wheel is simple, without buttons, which supports the concept of "less is more".
Noise insulation is average. After 2021, it was improved by adding double-glazed windows. However, noise is still noticeable on Ukrainian roads with rough asphalt. The suspension is stiff, which makes the steering precise but noticeable on potholes.
MG4 EV
The MG4, on the other hand, has a more traditional interior design, but everything is well thought out. There is a digital dashboard for the driver, a separate multimedia screen, a physical steering wheel and buttons for basic functions. Everything is simple, logical and without excessive digitalisation.
The seats are comfortable, especially in the front. The materials are of an average level, but well chosen, without squeaks. Thanks to the higher seating position, visibility is better than in Tesla. And the 147 mm ground clearance makes it easy to drive on unpaved roads.
The MG4 does not create a feeling of luxury, but it gives you peace of mind - everything is at hand, everything is clear, everything works.
Power and dynamics
Here, the comparison is not in favour of the MG4 - the Tesla Model 3 is much faster.
- MG4 EV: 125 kW (170 hp), 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds
- Tesla Model 3 SR+: 208 kW (283 hp), 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds
The MG4 is rear-wheel drive, just like the Tesla, so its handling is excellent. It is stable in corners and holds the road well, even on slippery surfaces. However, the response to the gas pedal is calm - the car does not "shoot", but accelerates smoothly, which is convenient for the city rhythm.
Tesla is a completely different story. You press it and it responds instantly. It feels like you've been "stuck" in the seat. Such a power reserve gives you confidence on the track, during overtaking or when starting quickly from the traffic lights.
MG4 is stability and predictability, Tesla is excitement and emotion.

Cruising range and energy consumption
Tesla Model 3
In a mixed cycle, the Tesla can travel about 350 km, up to 410 km in mild weather, and 290 km in winter. Energy consumption is just 146 Watt-hours/km, making it one of the most efficient in its class.
Battery heating is activated automatically, which is very important in the winter conditions of Ukraine. The car independently prepares the battery for charging, increasing the rate of energy replenishment even in minus temperatures.
MG4 EV
The MG4 has a 50.8 kWh capacity and a realistic range of 300 km. In warm weather, it can reach up to 345 km, but in winter, the drop is significant - up to 250 km. Energy consumption is 169 Wh/km. The MG4 is not as economical, but the difference is not critical. In urban conditions, where the speed is low, both models show similar results. But on the highway, Tesla consistently consumes less.
Charging and infrastructure
The MG4 supports 6.6kW AC and 87kW DC charging, which is more than enough for daily use. On fast charging, it reaches 10-80% in about 33 minutes.
The Tesla can charge at up to 170 kW DC, and this is a noticeable advantage - the 10-80% takes 21 minutes to charge. On long journeys, this saves up to half an hour at each stop. Both models are easy to charge in Ukraine:
- MG4 is compatible with most stations.
- Tesla uses the same CCS ports, but has its own Supercharger adapters (not yet available in Ukraine).
MG4 has another interesting feature - Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). That is, it can act as an "electric generator" and power devices with a capacity of up to 2.2 kW. This is useful when camping or in the event of an emergency power outage - a real plus for the Ukrainian reality.

Security.
Tesla Model 3 and MG4 EV received 5 Euro NCAP stars.
- Tesla Model 3: 96% adult protection, 86% child protection, 94% assistance systems
- MG4 EV: 83% adults, 80% children, 78% driver assistance
Tesla has an advantage in active safety systems, including automatic braking, collision avoidance and stability.
The MG4, on the other hand, also offers adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and the higher ground clearance sometimes even adds to safety on uneven surfaces.

Technologies and support systems
Tesla Model 3
Tesla remains a leader in technology. Its system is updated over the air, so the car constantly receives new features without service. There is navigation with charge forecasting, remote control via the app, and a security mode with video recording.
Autopilot uses cameras and radar to help you keep your lane, brake, and recognise vehicles and pedestrians. The central 15-inch screen controls everything: climate, settings, multimedia. Tesla actually works as a "smart device on wheels" that updates and improves itself.
MG4 EV
The MG4 offers a simple yet practical solution. Its multimedia system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which is convenient for everyday use. There is adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, automatic braking, blind spot monitoring and sign recognition.
For the city, this is a complete set of necessary systems without unnecessary complexity. MG4 doesn't try to impress, but provides everything you need - stable operation, a clear interface and comfort when travelling.
5. Warranty and service
The MG4 offers a 7-year or 150,000 km warranty. This is one of the best in the class. Tesla has 8 years/160,000 km. MG4 looks more favourable not only in terms of warranty but also in terms of service: spare parts are cheaper, the structure is simpler, and even the service base in Ukraine is gradually expanding.

Conclusions.
The MG4 and Tesla Model 3 are two worlds apart, but both make sense. The MG4 is a realistic, sensible choice for those who want to go electric without spending a lot of money. It is simple, reliable and comfortable for everyday use. The Tesla Model 3 is the choice for those who expect more: speed, efficiency, technology and recognition. It is more expensive, but the driving experience is completely different.
For Ukraine, the MG4 looks more practical, given the state of the roads, prices and living conditions. Tesla remains a dream for those who want the ultimate electric car experience.
