The interface is simple, the controls are intuitive, and charging is predictable. No need to have a technical background to use it. And there’s no need to overpay for a badge on the bonnet.

BYD relied on a familiar shape, a reliable platform and proven technologies. It also added a few details that are usually found in more expensive cars – adaptive climate, battery heating, a digital dashboard, and a normal trunk. Not as a luxury, but as the norm.

Design without unnecessary tricks

BYD did not try to make the Song Plus stand out by being aggressive or overly futuristic. It’s a typical city crossover with a subdued but modern look. 

Appearance without frills

Visually, Song Plus is restrained. The front end is slightly sloped, with narrow LED optics, without aggression. There is a chrome insert under the hood, the Dragon Face style typical of BYD in recent years. At the back there is a solid LED strip, a small wing, and a vertical boot lid. Everything is clean, laconic, without design noise.

Wolfgang Egger is the author of the style, the same one who used to work for Audi. And it shows. There are no kinks. There’s a sense of balance: it looks modern, but doesn’t attract more attention than necessary.

Inside: made not to irritate

The interior of BYD Song Plus is not about wow effect. It’s about ergonomics, logic and the absence of excess. The seats are upholstered in eco-leather, electrically adjustable (driver – 6 directions, passenger – 4), there is enough space both in front and behind.

135 kW of power (184 hp) is not a record, but it is more than enough for the city and overtaking on the highway. Acceleration to 100 km/h is 7.7 seconds. There are three driving modes:

• EcoFor congestion and economy at the end of a charge.
• Normal: basic urban mode.
• SportWhen you want sharper acceleration.

On the road, the car is confident, without rolling. The suspension is soft, but not too loose: MacPherson in the front and a multi-link scheme in the rear. The steering wheel is power-assisted, light in the city and precise at speed.

Real efficiency and range

Officially, BYD claims 505 km of NEDC, but in real life, you should focus on less. In warm weather, the real range can exceed 400 km, and in winter, at temperatures of around -10°C, it drops to about 380 km. This is achieved thanks to the battery heating system.
